Floor notes: 30th Celebration, and what’s circulating now
Two weeks out from Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration — the first set to drop worldwide on the same day. What it actually is, what the reprints are not, and what’s still moving on the English and Japanese floor.
September 16 is two weeks away. Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration is the first expansion to release simultaneously worldwide. Same day in Connecticut as everywhere else. That alone will change how the first weekend feels.
This is not a “join the hunt” post. It’s what we’re watching on the floor, and how we’re treating the set when copies land.
What 30th Celebration actually is
Officially: every card in the pack is foil, including Basic Energy. You’re guaranteed one of 30 different Pikachu illustrations. A new rarity — Futuristic rare — debuts, with Mewtwo and Mew illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN. New Pokémon ex include Greninja and Sylveon. Illustration rares already shown: Espeon, Umbreon, Lapras, Drifloon, Zorua, Lycanroc.
The Elite Trainer Box is nine packs, on the same September 16 date, Pokémon Center and retail.
There is also a Classic Collection: reprints of historic cards (Base Set Charizard and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX from Team Up are the ones Pokémon called out) in a 30th treatment. Those reprints are not Standard-legal. They’re collectible copies of old cards, not a shortcut into play. If someone lists a “Base Charizard” from this set as if it were 1999, that’s the wrong conversation.
What’s circulating now
English Mega Evolution is still the current era. Pitch Black came in July. Ascended Heroes tins just went out at the end of August. Those singles — Mega Latias ex, Mega Darkrai, Mega Venusaur — are what people are actually opening and trading this month.
Prismatic Evolutions has not left the chat. Sealed is still the product everyone asks about; Master Ball and SIR Eeveelutions still set the tone for chase. Destined Rivals singles (Team Rocket’s Houndoom, the Rocket subset) are moving as playable and collectible copies, not as a sealed frenzy.
Japanese is a different shelf: Mega Brave, Mega Dream ex, High Class packs. Worlds just teased Mega Attack Rares (Rayquaza, Darkrai, Greninja, Zygarde) for Japan’s High Class MEGA × MEGA Parade in February 2027. That’s next year’s problem. We’re not pricing 2027 air.
How we’re handling it
We photograph the copy in front of us. We don’t use stock scans. If a 30th Celebration card is sitting in a toploader on this table, that’s the picture you’ll see.
We are not going to pretend reprints are vintage, or that a worldwide day-one drop means infinite supply. Anniversary sets get opened hard the first two weeks, then the market decides which Pikachu illustrations and which Classic Collection cards were actually scarce. We’ll list what we have, as it sits, after we’ve looked at it.
If you’re pulling or buying singles ahead of the 16th and you need them sleeved: penny sleeves, toploaders, team bags, and slab sleeves are on the extras shelf. Ten-counts, no mystery boxes.
